Abstract

COLOR, BOD5, AND COD REMOVAL USING ELECTROCOAGULATION METHOD ON BATIK WASTEWATER IN SIDOARJO

ABSTRACT

 

            Batik Home industry produced wastewater that had highly colored, high number of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) either. Wastewater that produced from batik coloring were not be processed and directly streamed into Jetis River. The absence of simple wastewater treatment contributed to highly number of batik wastewater through the regulation. This research was meant to learnt about decrease of color, BOD, and COD in batik wastewater using electrocoagulation.

            This research type was true experiment with Pretest-Posttest with Control Group Design. This research used variances of currents and detention time with 5A and 10A currents and 45 minutes , 90 minutes detention time. This research used 5 replication. The data had to collected by laboratory research and interview to the owner of batik Home Industry. After the data had to be collected, the data was tested by Two Way Anova test and Post Hoc Tukey’s test.

            The results of this research showed difference mean of color, BOD5, and COD in all of  treatment variances. Post Hoc Tukey’s test showed that 10A-90 Minutes were the best treatment to reduced color, BOD5, and COD with color removal 89,3%, BOD removal 89,2%, and COD removal 95,7%. Nevertheless, BOD after treatment still through out the regulation and need further research to made the BOD fulfilled the quality standard.

            Further studied had to be done to know the effect of many factor that affect electrocoagulation method like temperature effect, effect of pH, voltage, electrode, detention time, and current. Also, need more study to integrated electrocoagulation method with other method to result the best batik wastewater treatment.
